In A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, the author depicts a transformation she undergoes during her captivity at the hands of the Indians. While her first inclination in captivity is to end her suffering as quickly as possible by giving up on her life, Rowlandson quickly takes up the role of survivalist, determined to stay alive long enough to be released and returned back to civilization. Along the way, however, Rowlandson compromises on aspects of her life in order to achieve this survival. As a means of surviving the ordeal of a constantly changing environment, Rowlandson adapts her opinions regarding food, the Native Americans, and even the land around her to take on the perspective of a savage, similar to that of her captors, as a means of compensating with her perceived savage environment. When Rowlandson is first captured, she makes it her objective to survive the ordeal as best as she can, but one of her earliest struggles comes with the subject of food. Rowlandson reflects on the progression of her eating habits and how she went through a fundamental change in her opinion towards the food in order to sustain herself: â€Å"But now that was savory to me that one would think was enough to turn the stomach of a brute creature.† (153) Here Rowlandson succinctly compares her own tastes to that of a brute creature, the sort of description she would normally reserve for one of the Native Americans. T his quote comes on the heels of stories of Rowlandson eating horse liver and different nuts and meats that were completely alien to her tastes. In her desperation, however, Rowlandson begins to consider anything that brings her nourishment and sustenance as â€Å"savory,† and in her starving and desperate state she separates herself from the presumably civilized reader by labeling them as â€Å"one.† From Rowlandson’s perspective, it is not a given that the food she was forced to eat would be unfit to eat, but that opinion would only stem from the perspective of â€Å"one† who was living in civilization. Another example of how we see Rowlandson’s perspective shift to be more savage is the way she perceives her Native American captors, particularly the master to which she belongs. When first captured she witnesses the Indians destroying her village and murdering her family, and so perceives them to be â€Å"barbarous creatures.† (141) However, we see a surprising turnaround of sentiments towards them when she later references her master in the Twelfth Remove. â€Å"But a sore time of trial, I concluded, I had to go through, my master being gone, who seemed to me the best friend that I had of an Indian†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (155) Rowlandson goes so far as to actually call one of the Indians her friend. The same people who she constantly refers to as base and uncivilized, she claims to have developed a relationship with. She also notably refers to â€Å"a sore time of trial,† an illusion to the struggles she has undergone in crafting this relationship, in developing this m indset. Rowlandson points out the process that transformed her opinions at that time. Rowlandson’s final, and perhaps most clear, transformation comes in the form of her perception of the wilderness and the environment in which she is traveling. At the onset of her captivity, she refers to the â€Å"wilderness† as â€Å"desolate† and â€Å"vast.† She laments the journey and leaving her home and civilization as she describes the â€Å"bitterness of [her] spirit that [she] had at this departure.† (142) However, shortly after she departs, her opinion once again changes. Upon hearing that the Indians buried her dead son, she describes her feelings upon visiting his burial spot. â€Å"Then they went and showed me where it was, where I saw the ground was newly digger, and there they told me they had buried it. There I left that child in the wilderness, and must commit it, and myself also in this wilderness-condition, to Him who is above all.† (144) Here Rowlandson explicitly describes the altered state she can tell that she is in, this â€Å"wilderness-condition,† and the way that she rationalizes the death of her infant and leaving him buried in the middle of nowhere as a product of her â€Å"wilderness-condition.† The very same sentence demonstrates a product of this condition, referring to her very son as â€Å"that† child. The impersonal, no-relationship way she refers to her own flesh and blood is how she compensates with her situation, and it’s this condition that makes her react the way she does. The changes that Rowlandson undergoes during her travels transform her views and opinions to be more in line with those of the Native Americans with whom she is a captive, and she uses this transformation of views as a coping mechanism throughout her journey. Rowlandson, whether knowingly or not, identifies that the people who are so adept at handling the harsh conditions of constant travel and living in an uncivilized land are the Native Americans themselves, and so her views change to be more like theirs. She begins to accept the foods they eat as tasteful, the Natives themselves as people instead of simply savages, and the harsh realities of the environment and the detachment of nature’s cruelty regarding the death of her son with a detached manner. It is interesting to note that her religious side only gets stronger throughout her captivity, and she never loses her faith. Successful responses to conservation conflicts frequently require individual professionals to reach outside their own disciplines for needed tools, skills and perspectives. Interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as collaboration between sectors, is critical to improving the understanding of underlying causes needed to shift the emphasis from reactive mitigation of conflict to proactive prevention strategies. The Human-Wildlife Conflict Collaboration (HWCC) is pioneering efforts to facilitate collaborative learning among diverse partners so that we may improve our collective ability to address the root causes of conservation conflicts. HWCC is unique in that it provides a neutral global forum upon which to convene the individuals, institutions and sectors working on, or affected by, conflict in conservation. Through this forum and our collaborative work, we will help wildlife professionals and key decision makers shift our efforts from a reactive mitigation of human-wildlife conflict to a proactive, prevention of all conservation conflicts. Definition The Creating Co-existence workshop at the 5th Annual World Parks Congress defined human-wildlife conflict as :â€Å"Human-wildlife conflict occurs when the needs and behavior of wildlife impact negatively on the goals of humans or when the goals of humans negatively impact the needs of wildlife.† Nature of human-wildlife conflicts As human population extends to wild animal habitats, natural wildlife territory is displaced. The population density of wildlife and humans overlaps increasing their interaction thus resulting in increased physical conflict. Byproducts of human existence offer un-natural opportunity for wildlife in the form of food and shelter, resulting in increased interference and potentially destructive threat for both man and animals. Various forms of human–wildlife conflict occur with various negative results. Some of these are: Animal deaths Crop damage Damage to property Destruction of habitat Injuries to people Injuries to wildlife Livestock depredation Loss of human life, such as by Tiger attack Information on man-wildlife conflicts in Kerala during the period 1983-93 were collected from the office records of the Divisional Forest Offices and by Visiting areas from where man-wildlife conflicts were reported. Cattle lifting was mainly due to Panther (Panthera pardus) Tiger (Panthera tigris) and Wild Dog (Cuon alpinus). Eighty nine cattle lifting cases were reported during the period. Thirty one human deaths and 64 injury cases were also reported, mostly due to Elephants. Out of the total compensation claimed for cattle lifting only 20% was disbursed and only 14% were disbursed for human casualties. Electric fences using energizers may solve the problem temporarily. Resettling of villagers from inside the forest areas is also advisable. The southern state of Karnataka has got some of the most pristine forests in Western Ghats spanning the districts of North Kanara, Dharwad,  Belgaum, Shimoga, Udupi, Mangalore, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Madikeri, Mysore and Chamrajnagar. The forests in these districts are quite rich in wild life as can be expected, the most notable wildlife in these forests being Elephants, Tigers, Leopards among other animals. In the drier tracts of these and other districts where the topography is mostly plains with scattered rocky outcrops of hills the wildlife consists of Bear, Black bucks and Leopards. The difference is only in the extent of damages and the number of lives lost. The problem of Man – Elephant conflict is more severe in the districts of Hassan and Madikeri where large herds of elephants can be seen roaming and marauding the farms especially in or near the forest areas damaging the valuable agricultural crops. At times there have been loss of human lives which only accentuates the problem taking this conflict to an entirely new level. Naturally people can tolerate the loss of agricultural crops but not the loss of their family members. But then who is responsible for all this? It is we who have intruded into their territory, converting the forests into agricultural farms, growing crops and inviting the elephants to our doorsteps to come and have their stomach fill. Its we who have fragmented their habitat by making roads, dams and canals. We have honeycombed their habitat by our so called developmental activities eating into their homelands and this appetite of ours for their areas is only increasing day by day with the bulging human population. The elephants in these areas seem to have a very peculiar habit. First they have their stomach fill. After that they roam around in search of arrack which is usually being distilled in local bhatties. The arrack or the distil waste gives them a nice kick and these drunken elephants are responsible for the loss of human lives. The tools employed by the forest department like bursting of crackers, gunshots or fire torches are too primitive to stop or scare away the marauding pack of drunken elephants. The Man-Leopard conflict is more visible in the transition zone between dry plain lands and the green hilly areas. In the Chikmagalur district it is more a problem in the dry taluqa of Kadur particularly bordering villages of Kadur and Chikmagalur taluqa where the dry tract ends. Kadur is the place  which earned a bad name for it about 10 years back. It was here where large number of panthers had to be shot and killed by employing and bringing so called sharp shooters from all over the state in search of an illusive so called man-eater panther. The end result of all this hunting spree was that every day and night several panthers were shot and brought to the post mortem table, post mortem was carried out and the killed panther was declared innocent as no human remains could be detected inside till finally some human hair remnants were detected in one and then only this shooting spree came to a halt. It is debatable whether it was really required to kill such a large number of panthers which is an endangered species but perhaps the department had no means to identify the errant panther and hence large number of panthers had to be killed in search of that illusive wayward one. Moreover at times one is driven by the urge to be seen as trying his best. Probably this urge opened the floodgates and gradually people took the law into their own hands thinking that why to wait for the forest department when they can themselves teach panthers a lesson. Same happened some time back. A family of a mother panther and its two grown up cubs was seen in the vicinity of a village. They hunted a calf and ate it partially before they were chased away by the villagers. Once they left, the carcass of the calf was nicely poisoned. When the mother and the cub returned unsuspectingly next day, they consumed the remains and in the process died themselves. Leopards by nature tend to stray into the habitations in search of their kill. Their natural prey is becoming rare in the forests and the omnipresent cattle and dogs in the vicinity of the villages on the periphery of forest brings them in close conflict of the human beings. In some other areas also few panthers have had to lose their lives being caught in the snares. These snares are fixed in the barbed wire fence of coffee estates, not necessarily by the estate owners but at times by their labour in order to catch wild boars or smaller animals. However it is the panthers and Sambars who have had to pay the price with their lives for their adventure in to the estates. The Man- Tiger conflicts are by and large restricted to the high forests and the coffee estates in the vicinity of forests in Chikmagalur district. These conflicts also arise due to depredation by tigers on the cattle or getting entangled in the snares fixed in the fencings of the estates. Few tigers  have been killed due to such snares. In Chikmagalur, Hassan, Kodagu and other Western Ghat districts Coffee plantations are an integral part of the topography. The conditions available in the coffee estates make them very close to look like forest. Presence of cattle in such areas makes them ideal hunting grounds for the tigers and leopards bringing them in direct conflict with the villagers. Moreover there are large number of authorized and unauthorized muzzle loading guns available making it very difficult for the wild life to survive. Primary reason for all these conflicts is fragmentation of the wild habitat. Whereas few patches have been brought under the Conservation network by declaring them as National Parks or Sanctuaries, about 85-90% of the forest areas are still outside this network. While there can be no doubt that establishing this network has contributed significantly to wildlife conservation. But real problem is that even these networks are also fragmented. Whereas total concentration in these parks and sanctuaries is on wildlife protection making the conditions ideal for wildlife, but what about the wildlife staying in forest areas outside these networks. Wildlife knows no boundaries. Creation of ideal conditions in sanctuaries has helped wildlife to multiply rapidly but where is the additional habitat required to take care of the additional population of animals, which tries to flow over to the adjoining areas only to get killed. This is particularly so with regard to the wild animals having territorial tendencies. There is need to have a continuous conservation network with sufficient area and resources to take care of the progeny. Right now almost no effort is being made to take up wild life related management works outside the parks and sanctuaries. The lands outside the parks and sanctuaries (even inside also) are constantly under threat of encroachment. Honeycombing of the forestlands has already reached extreme. The tools employed by the government in reducing the Man and Wildlife Conflicts are highly insufficient and hence not producing desired results. If we think that paying a few hundred or thousands Rupees to a person as compensation for crop damages by elephants or for a cattle killed by a  leopard or tiger would save our wildlife from getting poisoned or shot, then it is nothing but our shortsightedness. Even this so-called wildlife compensation is paid to him after making innumerable trips to the concerned office. The farmer has to forego his earnings for each day he has to visit the office, he has to pay from his pocket for the bus charge and has to undergo physical strain †¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦. And what he gets is just few hundred rupees. Such hardships discourage him and in the process he gets encouraged to take the law into his own hands and to settle scores with his tormentor- the wildlife. There are only losers on both the sides. The Forest officials are also at times not acting in tandem. There is no coordination among the adjoining units. Particularly in case of elephant herds movements between the adjoining units it can be seen. Everybody wants to drive away the herds to another adjoining unit without giving any thought. It only complicates the problems. Need of the hour is to have a stock of the real problem. And then only solutions can be found. We tend to take each problem in a routine manner. There is a tendency to leave the things to lower subordinates. The powers that be have to take everybody into confidence, discuss the issue threadbare and then have to take a conscious decision. A conscious policy decision need not be essentially sweet and liked by all but it may herald a new era where people and wildlife both can coexist beneficially. How would you react to an elephant in your backyard or a bear in your garden? As human populations expand and natural habitats shrink, people and animals are increasingly coming into conflict over living space and food. From baboons in Namibia attacking young cattle, to greater one-horned rhinos in Nepal destroying crops, to orangutans in oil palm plantations, to European bears and wolves killing livestock – the problem is universal, affects rich and poor, and is bad news for all concerned. The impacts are often huge. People lose their crops, livestock, property, and sometimes their lives. The animals, many of which are already threatened or endangered, are often killed in retaliation or to ‘prevent’ future conflicts. What are the reason for conflict between man and animals? The main reason is that man, unlike other animals change the environment around him instead of adjusting himself according to the environment. By doing this he disturbes other animals, with knowing and without knowing .Thus he creates a conflict. Human beings think that they have a right to control everything (a scientifically given or a god given right) That is because the power of thought he posseses. And because he is the most intelligent being on earth. But unlike human beings animals do not posses a power of thought, thus they with out thinking or knowing block the path of humans. Even a cat stealing a fish from a kitchen is a conflict, yet the cat only hope to fulfill its need of food not to steal it away. Another reason is increasing of development of physical things made by human beings. The human population is high because he knoes the way to heal, thus the need of land is high both for cultivation and living.Many animals have lost their home lands so they go serching for lands in human habitat areas. In many countries it is a big issue because animals such as Elephants do not only barge into villages but destroy crops and even lives on their way. The final big issue is environment pollution and global warming. And this causes some animals especially those who cannot maintain body temperature according to need (such as fish) have become extinct and are becoming extinct.This may look as a mear happening of the pollution and global warming. How come an animal in Africa who’ve become extinct effect someone in America or Asia? Yet it does effect because as you know Planet earth is a system. Solutions Potential solutions to these conflicts include electric fencing, land use planning, community-based natural resource management (CBNRM), compensation, payment for environmental services, ecotourism, wildlife friendly products, or other field solutions.[3] In efforts to reduce human-wildlife conflict, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has partnered with a number of organizations to provide solutions around the globe. Their solutions are tailored to the community and species involved. For example, in Mozambique, communities started to grow more chili pepper plants after making the discovery that elephants dislike and avoid plants containing capsaicin. This creative and effective method prevents elephants from trampling community farmers’ fields as well as protects the species.

Then he does completely by forgetting his cover name -Even though the woman knew Huck was pretending, she continued to talk to him.Maybe it is because she is lonely and needed someone to talk to anyways -The woman is very sharp because she observes everything Huck does and then compares it to how a woman would do it and how he was doing it -Huck tells more lies to cover his identity, which does work -The woman quizzes him to see if he's lying again, which he was, but Huck new the answers to her question s nevertheless -Huck starts another fire on the island to trick the people looking for them into thinking that this place was their campsite; it was very clever -Huck seems to be very good at tricking people. Is this because he has tricked a lot of people in the past?Chapter 12: -The woman's information ended up being very helpful -All of Huck and Jim's actions show how careful they as being as to not get caught -Ironic: Pap talks about good deeds, while he's a violent drunk -Setting: They passed St. Louis on the fifth night -St. Louis was very different from Huck's hometown in that there were so many more people living in St. Louis -When Huck wanted to explore the wreck, Jim refused at first, but when Huck spoke about how much the items on the boat could be worth, he said okay -Both Jim and Huck use Tom as a role model and an example throughout the book -It was very unlikely that they were to find eople on the ship already, but they did -Jack Packard does not want to kill the man, he just wants to teach him a lesson, but the other man wants to kill him -Ironic: A murderer is talking about good morals -The men on the boat are robbers and murderers -Huck wants to catch the murderers -Huck and Jim end up being stuck on the boat with the murderers, and the boat could sink at any moment Chapter 13: -Huck and Jim are lucky to have gotten off of the boat. â€Å"Curiosity killed the cat† -This situations shows that money brings out the worst in people -Huck has sympathy on the murderers They took the valuables that the robbers were going to take from the boat -This shows the importance of money in this time period; they were willing to risk their lives for some more money -Huck lies to the watchman of the boat so that he will go to the wreck and save the robbers -Does Huck look up these thieves as role models? -There is a lot of repetition when it comes to the subject of death. He has the story wrong anyways -Jim is very stubborn and maybe even sensitive -Once again, Jim is being arrogant and ignorant to different types of people Chapter 15: -Huck has one of the â€Å"meow† calls like he had with Tom -The fog acts as a means of isolation, separating everyone -Huck lies to Jim and tricks him -Jim thought that Huck had died, again. So when Huck woke Jim up it was as if he had come back to life for the second time -Why is Huck trying to fool Jim? Jim was smart enough to realize that Huck tricked him. Huck was smart enough to trick him, but not smart enough to see the damage that tricking people causes Chapter 16: -Huck thinks that they are going in circles, so he doesn't know what to do (conflict) -Jim brought up smoking. It has been a while since this has been mentioned -When Jim brought up how close his free dom is, Huck questioned himself. I am sure there is at least one -Who is she meeting at 2:30? -Jim has been living off of Grangerford hospitality as well -Huck is smart for not revealing Jim right away and directly -Characterization: Buck is more violent than the rest of his family -Huck is once again involved in death: Angel of Death? Huck always blames himself for the deaths that he is connected to, since he could have prevented it, but it's not entirely his fault -Huck is back from the dead to Jim for the third time -Huck and Jim are happy to be reunited away from the feuding families Chapter 19: -Top of page 117: Great imagery -Huck and Jim being naked around each other shows that they are comfortable with each other -Jim has a lot of crazy thoughts -Huck is getting into the bad habit of helping fugitives -At first it sounds like he won't help, but he's just being smart -Both men have money trouble One is old and bald and the other is young -It's strange- The men are trying to get to know each other, but they never exchange names -I don't believe Bridgewater when he says he is a Duke. It is very unlikely -I think that the old man is trying to trick everyone into thinking that Bridgewater died. He is jealous -The Duke is jealous because the King beats him. Jim and Huck are very gullible -Huck knows that the two men are lying, but he just plays along to kee p the peace Chapter 20: -Huck is a very good storyteller -Why don't Huck and Jim get beds? Huck always uses great imagery when describing nature, but when he describes people he lacks details, which gives poor imagery -The King and the Duke and very selfish, which angers me. Huck deserves better friends -Obviously Huck never knew about plays; he was poor -This raft is full of liars -He's trying to trick and embarrass the king -This is not church like Huck is used to -The King and Duke should also be up there -He is such a liar, even if it is true. I think if he gets back to the Indian Ocean he'll be tempted into pirating again -This is not a smart idea at all.For 200 dollars people will steal Jim or make sure he is brought back -I think Jim is skeptical of them being kings and dukes as well Chapter 21: -I have a bad feeling about the swordfight -Characterization: The Duke is very bossy and a â€Å"know-it-all† -How does the Duke know so much Shakespeare? -A few of these lines in the speech are correct, but misplaced. Most of it is just made up -The sign for the Shakespeare play was a form of propaganda -The tickets were overpriced and it was false advertising -This is not the right town to show cultured â€Å"Shakespeare† -People in this town have a sick and violent sense of humor The daughter is just in time to see her dad get killed -Again, Huck witnesses a murder: Angel of Death? -More like a mob than a town. Are there any rules or laws? Chapter 22: -Of course everyone is afraid of the guy with the double barrel shot gun; he always wins -The man is a coward. She sees right through him, yet she continues to play along -Huck is beginning to get second thought about the robbery -Huck sees how innocent the daughters are -The Duke and Huck care about the orphans. The King does not -Characterization: The King is very selfish -The king cares about materials rather than other people -Huck is making the right decision by stealing the gold from the frauds, but who will be blamed for it?Chapter 27: -If he hides the money, will anyone get it back? -Huck is involved in another death: A. O. D (Angel of Death) -Huck is right. Someone will probably find the money -What is wr ong with the dog? Or will he turn them away? Chapter 30: -He sort of reminds me of Pap in a way -Now the king and the duke are against each other because they wanted the money -The king said that he did it to save his life -I really hope that Jim and Huck leave the duke Chapter 31: -The king and duke are up to no good -I knew something bad would happen! -Did the duke and the king sell Jim themselves? Conflict: Man versus Man, Man versus Society, and Man versus Self -Huck is getting his beliefs again -Underwater is the best place to hide a canoe -Huck is now conforming to pap's beliefs -Huck is, once again, a fast thinker -Obviously this was the plan that the two men had on the boat that they kept quiet -He won't trust Huck because he's not trustw orthy himself -So he shouldn't trust Huck, he is going to leave Chapter 32: -(Page 218) Very descriptive -Is there a connection between Huck and Tom Sawyer here? -A â€Å"nigger† is still a person -All of the sudden, Huck isn't comfortable lying. Why? -(Page 222) This is suspenseful That's a ridiculous coincidence that Huck met Tom's family -This was a lucky coincidence Chapter 33: -Of course Tom thinks Huck is dead -Now Tom and Huck can brainstorm together to devise a plan on how to save Jim -Tom always comes up with something stylish. I cannot wait to see -He has something planned -â€Å"Humans can be awful cruel to one another† -The royalty is ended! -Huck always feels like he is to blame Chapter 34: -They are feeding Jim -Meanwhile, Huck is just as clever at Tom -Tom is a true friend to Huck -Style is good, but Huck's plan will take less time and be easier -Jim is good at playing along with plans Jim's life is at stake. I wonder if Jim is fooling the other servants and blaming witches Chapter 35: -Tom's style is kind of tedious and overly complex -I think that Tom thinks of this as a game. He is not taking it seriously -Tom is completely irrational and overly imaginative -Tom should let Huck handle the plan -Huck is much more realistic -Tom bases too much of his actions on fictions -Huck is in his right mind, but Tom is not -They don't have all the time in the world to save Jim, but Tom thinks they do -Huck sees no point in arguing Chapter 36: Slowly but surely, this will go the was Huck said it would go in the first place -Huck's easier ideas are beginning to look good to Tom -Jim is always happy to see Huck -Jim, like Huck, did not argue to keep the peace -Tom's lie may help Nat's sanity -Characterization: Nat is very superstitious Chapter 37: -People are beginning to notice missing household items -It is kind of obvious that Tom should have listened to Huck -Huck's lies affect a lot of people's sanity -Why do they have to confuse Aunt Sall y? -It is a good plan, but I feel terrible for the Aunt and Uncle -Although it was unnecessary, Jim did everything that Tom told him to doChapter 38: -They could have run away by now -What is a coat of arms? -Does Tom know that they don't have much time left? -Jim begins to dislike Tom's â€Å"style† -Jim is getting annoyed with the escape plan -We have already had bad experience with rattlesnakes -Tom's â€Å"doing it right† is just going to make Jim miserable -Of course Jim gives in as to not cause any trouble -Tom is giving Jim so much to work on Chapter 39: -But the Uncle already closed all of the rat holes (Page 264, first sentence) -Now Jim is having a miserable time as a prisoner Huck certainly looks up to Tom, but I think Huck should stand up for himself for once -This process does not really have to be this scary -Is there a good reason to scare everyone? -Tom's imagination is just as big, if not bigger than Huck's. Is Huck this way because of Tom? Chapter 40: -Something bad is going to come out of this -They could get killed or hurt from this! -It is lucky that the butter melted. It got him out of trouble -Tom likes this mind of danger. Does he still see this as a game? -Of course Tom would be happy with a bullet in his leg. It's like a trophy for his hard work -I agree, Jim does need a doctorChapter 41: -The doctor might tell the Phelpses -Huck is using good excuses to encourage the doctor to come -All of Tom's crazy, stupid evidence really came in handy -At least Tom and Huck are not blamed -It's funny: They did not get away safe and sound -They won't find Tom because he is on the raft. Where is Jim? -This is just how it was with Mary Jane (Page 282) -Huck will go if she's asleep Chapter 42: -I knew the doctor wasn't trustworthy -Of course they would not hang Jim because of how much he is worth -I guess the doctor did do the right thing in the end So Jim is good and Tom is good -Hopefully Aunt Sally will assume that Tom is insane, rat her than believe him. Otherwise, they might get into a lot of trouble -Tom sincerely wanted Jim free -Jim was already free after all of this? Excellent twist -After all of the trouble they went through, Jim was already free, and Tom already knew that! Tom just wanted the adventure -Everyone seems to have a happy ending Chapter The Last -Tom just wanted an adventure. He did not know that Jim and Huck had already had their fair share of adventures -I knew Jim had him for a reason!
